Email Subject: Concerned about foreign government influence and human rights abuses
Hi [Candidate’s name],
[As a constituent in your riding (if you are),] I am writing to you about my concerns for my personal safety and the safety of our communities with regards to the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) human rights violations at home and their aggressive influence strategies in BC. Our diasporic communities are being surveilled, intimidated and harassed by the long arms of the Chinese Government on Canadian soil, including coordinated efforts to silence dissidents.
I am also concerned about
[Can personalize here. Suggestions - pick one or write your own:]
In light of the actions of the CCP abroad and here in BC, I would like a clear response from you regarding the following matters within the next three days:
Our communities need to feel safe by knowing that our elected officials are not under the influence of our oppressors. Please kindly respond by __ (give them three days). If I don’t hear back, I will assume your position to be one that welcomes foreign interference in our governments.
Sincerely,

Hi [Candidate’s name],
[As a constituent in your riding (if you are),] I am writing to you about my concerns for my personal safety and the safety of our communities with regards to the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) human rights violations at home and their aggressive influence strategies in BC. Our diasporic communities are being surveilled, intimidated and harassed by the long arms of the Chinese Government on Canadian soil, including coordinated efforts to silence dissidents.
I am also concerned about
[Can personalize here. Suggestions - pick one or write your own:]
- The human rights atrocities that the CCP is committing against Uyghurs, Tibetans, Inner Mongolians, Hong Kongers and human rights activists.
- The CCP actively targeting our local politicians
- The CCP’s blatant interference in our democracy, including the improper detainment of a BC MLA and former deputy speaker at the Shanghai Airport, with the MLA stating “that he believes China’s Consulate General in Vancouver is pressuring Chinese-Canadian community groups to ostracize him.”
- The increasing pressures exerted on Canadian media to censor criticisms of the Chinese Government by the United Front, the propaganda arm of the Chinese State
In light of the actions of the CCP abroad and here in BC, I would like a clear response from you regarding the following matters within the next three days:
- Will you pledge to decline any gifts or donations from the Chinese Communist government and its affiliates or any other foreign governments that abuse human rights? This includes, but is not limited to, monetary donations, and paid-for trips.
- Will you reject the CCP’s ‘Belt and Road’ initiative and other economic development initiatives in BC that are promoted by authoritarian governments or enterprises with ties to authoritarian states?
Please see Canada’s own intelligence agency’s conclusion on the Belt and Road and this matter of national security:
”China intends to use its economic power as an instrument to achieve broader strategic objectives. Instead of gunboat diplomacy and coercive military power, BRI will be used to access new markets, control critical infrastructure assets, and bend other countries’ will to China’s. Economic leverage can be used both as an incentive to garner support for Beijing’s interests and reduce potential resistance, and as a coercive means to punish recalcitrant countries.”.
Our communities need to feel safe by knowing that our elected officials are not under the influence of our oppressors. Please kindly respond by __ (give them three days). If I don’t hear back, I will assume your position to be one that welcomes foreign interference in our governments.
Sincerely,
[your name] [your address]
